Pompey went to the top of Southern Group E in the EFL Trophy with a 5-1 win over Gillingham at Fratton Park.
With no league football for Pompey until 21st October, John Mousinho named a stronger team than usual for an EFL Trophy fixture. The Blues boss made six changes, and was rewarded with a big win.
Goals from Anjorin, Stevenson, Yengi, Kamara and Towler gave 5-star Portsmouth the three points that sent the Blues to the top of their group, overtaking opponents Gillingham in the process.
The strength of the first team was also met with a bumper crowd for an EFL Trophy fixture. Over 5,000 were in attendance, as opposed to the 3,500 for the Fulham game. Albeit nowhere near the attendances expected for a fixture that actually matters.
As Mr Jeff Harris would say, it’s a dicking.
