Pompey left it late, but once again came from behind to take all three points last night at home to Wycombe Wanderers.
For the third game in a row, and the fifth this season, the Blues went 1-0 down only to flip the game on it’s head and retain their position atop the League One table.
Josh Scowen flicked Wycombe in front from a corner in the first half against the run of play. But Pompey came out swinging in the second half, particularly after the introduction of Christian Saydee. Colby Bishop drew Pompey level following good work from Kamara on the left.
And then, in the 98th minute, Conor Shaughnessy rose heighest to power home Jack Sparkes’ corner, beating a stranded Stryjek in the process.
Blues’ boss John Mousinho was delighted at full time. Speaking to the Club’s media, Mousinho said : “It feels amazing after seeing the whole stadium erupt like that and I’m really pleased for the fans and the lads.
“I’m not going to lie – I enjoyed that one. It was a difficult game and we played well, so I’d have been pleased with the performance even without the late goal.
“We stood up to the physical test well and Wycombe are a side who are good at what they do. It’s difficult when you fall behind against them.”
Next up for the Blues is the visit of Port Vale to Fratton Park. Pompey will be without Regan Poole or Alex Robertson following their yellow cards last night.
Port Vale sit 8th in League One, having won only 1 of their last 5 league games.
